Shaping a space
Colour is not about picking a colour. At least, not in the context of Interior Design. The function of colour in crafting interior spaces is as much about creating the desired feeling and expression of the existing space it is occupying as much as it is about the beauty of the colour itself. These spaces often have defining elements such as a staircase, a piano or simply the dimensions of the space itself. Choosing a colour is about responding sensitively to these defining elements in order to lift and elevate the existing space with the intention of allowing it to express it's own existing and intrinsic characteristics and ultimately, to perform its function and purpose with ease.
This is the true power of colour in Interior Design - to give a voice and mode of expression to the architecture AS IT IS - not what it 'should be'. It is an empathetic and collaborative approach between client and designer and a very powerful tool when approached with this mindset and prerogative. The most successful interior colour schemes have this intention of colour approach front and center and the results speak for themselves - Spaces that feel as if they have always existed as is - calm, ordered and fully adapted to work for their intended and respective purposes.
This is the approach to appropriate colour application at Rye Interior Design.
